most of the slowest times come from pacific islands, but there are quite a few other countries that have slow NR's as well (afghanistan - highlighted by a 3:56.5 4 x 400 relay, bhutan - 3:25.10 marathon by a guy named boney boney [i don't make this up], montserat)

The HS I teach and coach at in Iowa has several students from the Marshall Islands, usually about 5-10 per year for the last 10 years. I once had a Marshallese boy on my XC team who ran under 18:30 on an accurate 5K course.

The Lao runners who I tried so hard to support for 2 years have got to be the biggest pussies in the world.
I gave them about 25 pairs of shoes, some of them brand new ones from Japan and eastbay. I wrote down the best training programmes that I could, bought them tons of food, trained with them, yelled at them, did most everything possible, but still could not get even one of them to run a sub 3:00 marathon!!
I think that they just are not willing to train hard.

Yeah, I know that! But I coached him around 1995-96 so nothing we can do about it now.
The same kid also ran in the 52's for the 400 so he was pretty close to the hand-timed record. If we can some of these other Marshallese kids out for track, we'll work on rewriting the record board!
I think the problem was their coach.
So how do I get citizenship? Should I marry? What are the females like - thats the big question?
