My predictions for the team are above but I also predict the following to do big things:
Solomon, Fernandez, Asmerom, Jager, Torres, Ritz, Meb
I bet a pack of about 6-7 break away from the field in the 10k instead of the usual small group of 2-3 that's broken away in the last two US championships. When Abdi and Rupp start hammering you gotta believe guys like Torres, Ritz, and Meb will go with. Nelson probably should but I'm not sure if he will. He may be content with just running "smart" the whole way but he's good enough to make the team in my opinion.

A lot of unknowns here still, mostly with Wheating and Fernandez. If they are running and if so which event. As of yesterday Vin made it sound like they were most likely going to race wheating and if so it would probably be the 1500.

Does anyone know why Wheating would race the 1500? Why not the event he went to the Olympics in? Personally I think he'll be a great miler now or in the future, and I really hope to see him rock the house in the 1500, but I don't get why he wouldn't run what has been his primary event so far in his career.

he was top-ranked in the ncaa in both last year.
and during the college season he ran for points, and they needed him in the 8 more than the 15
he also probably would've run longer more this year but was injured during the winter and i'd guess was lacking in endurance until recently
i'd like to see him really give xc a try (ie full summer of training instead of racing), so i'd almost prefer it if he doesn't make the team or spend the summer in europe
I gotta agree with Vin on this. They are thinking big picture. He has a lot of college left, he is already an NCAA champ (plust the dmr) and an Olympian. He can probably get into 1:44 this season and he'll have his chance since they are racing in europe. However I think they realize that while he can continue to improve his PB in the 800, the 1500 is where he probably stands a chance to do something bigger on the intenational level. He ran 3:38 last year not knowing what he was doing. He went from like 3rd to a distant 8th or so from the 1100 mark to 1200 mark and then got out, came back up and blitzed a :26.0 to smash everyone. If he starts racing fast guys in the 1500 his times are going to get fast and with his kick, he has the potential to at least make a final, and eventually maybe do more.
If he goes 800 it might just be another trip to international competition to be knocked out early.
The top 2 guys in this event, Gay and Dix, are the two most humble sprinters involved in the sport. Never seen them showboat, they are very eloquent in the post race interviews, and they are never putting down other runners. Some racist MF'ers on this site.

Although I'd agree that Gay and Dix (especially Gay) seem to be very professional and humble (again, moreso with Gay, IMO) I would hardly call either of them eloquent. Neither sound completely idiotic like some athletes you hear interviewed, but "eloquent" is not a term I'd use loosely to describe two men who both speak just like other normal people. Eloquent is a pretty loaded word when used in regard to the English language.
