mid level d2 program with xc only...weekly mileage varies from low 50's to high 80's depending on the person. have had runners at low 40's in the past. have 1 guy currently at 20 a week due to injuries but he does 3 days of cycling and 1 day in the pool to supplement. about half my team runs every day with maybe 1-2 days away from running a month and the other half takes a day off each week.
to: a college coach-could you explain why you do 2 two-a-days a week but you're at 70 total for the week? i'm curious because that's 8 workouts for the week so an average of less than 9 miles/workout. my runner at high 80's does 2 two-a-days some weeks but the guys at 70-75 only do 1 or sometimes zero doubles per week. our long run for that group is 15-18 so maybe that's the difference. just curious.
typical week for us this time of year:
--sun: long easy run; 10-18
--mon: off or short-medium easy run; 0-10
--tues: speedwork; 9-13
--weds: recovery; 7-10, possible double day; 0-7
--thurs: hills; 8-12
--fri: short easy run; 5-7, possible double day; 0-5
--sat: race; 8-13 includes wu & cd
total for the week: 47-95 but nobody maxes out every workout so realistically max is 88.
we maintain mileage through conference. down mileage weeks are dependent on the person, some as frequent as 3 weeks up 1 down, some just maintain consistent mileage up to conference.
