Since we all are getting so nitty gritty, let's go by the weather in the 5k and 15. Rupp's 5k was a lot cooler and at night, with zero wind(flag ceases to move). Fernandez's 1500 had a slight breeze. It was enough to make the big American flag be fully shown as the wind's power held it that way. That's a good second or two more of effort...
And obviously, German lead wire to wire.
Rupp's race was pretty much a predestrian pace till the last mile with a couple surges "coated with jogs in between".
If Rupp's so good, then there should be no argument that the first 2 miles of the 5k didn't take that much out of him as he sucked off others just like the 10k, till the last few laps. Anyways, let's get realistic, Rupp fresh in the 1500m would've gave German a run for his money, but by no means was it in the bag for him. I'd still think German would beat him. He was so smooth and at ease when he crossed the finish line, he had more, obviously. Also, I believe Rupp got a specially set up race for him at Washington(indoors) gearing towards sub 3.55... what did he run? Oh ya, 3.57. Talk all you want, but in my eyes, German would've beat Rupp.
In all honesty, Fernandez is way more marketable than the pimple faced kid. Both studdly runners, no question about that. Looks? Well, Rupp lacks that greatly. It's a shallow world, but hey, that's how it works. Plus, there's no arguemnt on Fernandez's running potential, obviously, much higher than Rupp's.
