Event 7 Men 5000m Run Round 2
Name Affiliation Time
Heat 1
1 Galen Rupp Oregon 14:04.12 36.37(36.37) 1:49.25(1:12.89) 3:01.67(1:12.42) 4:04.68(1:03.01) 5:18.40(1:13.73)
6:32.48(1:14.08) 7:43.79(1:11.32) 8:53.14(1:09.36) 10:04.04(1:10.90) 11:08.88(1:04.85)
12:09.82(1:00.94) 13:06.91(57.10) 14:04.12(57.21)
So basically 64,60,57,57 - 4:02
or
60,57,57 - 2:55
or
57.1,57.2 - 1:54.3
To note, he didn't even go until 600, though mcneil had picked it up from 1000? and he shut the engine off with 20 or more meters left. had he gone at 1600 and run threw the line that was easily under 4:00 for the last 1600 maybe 3:57. After everything, just nuts.

I'd love to see a video of his last 600 so I could get a better split from 4400 to 4800m... they were absolutely rolling. I tried to look at the clock on the screen while it was live and I'm thinking it was a 53 at the worst.
-
to make it more interesting, rupp said his shoe was clipped at 200 meters into the race and was off his heel. i can't remember when he fixed it but it seemed like 5-6 laps in, meaning he had nearly have the race with his shoe off his heel and he had to stop get down on a knee and fix it.
-
His final 1600 meters was in 4:00.08, not 4:02.
-
Wow you are bad at math. That would be 64.85+60.94+57.10+57.21=4:00.1.
-
Haha fair enough, i actually didn't add that up since it was being repeated as 4:02 after the race. Given that, it's really scary to think what he might have done!

'threw'?? Wow. Even on this board, that's pretty bad spelling. -
if oregon loses....he's gonna wish he tripled....
-
people bitch he could not run sub 4
he should have saved it for inside the 10000 -
Unreal that he could run 4 flat over the last 1600 of a 14:04.12! To put this in a better perspective as others may have already stated by now here on LR,I have not read all of the posts; Kenenisa Bekele ran his last race of the Olympic Games also after 20km of racing a 12:57.82 in an Olympic Record, with the last 2km in 4:56.97, the last 1km in 2:25.30 & the last 400 closing it out in 53.87!!!! Also to note the last 3000 was completed in 7:35.51! His last 3 kilometers traveled in 2:38.54, 2:31.67, 2:25.30

I got the split from 4400-4800 and had it in 54 mid.
-
Yeah, 54 mid looks right seeing the video replay. Scribbling splits from live video and guessing at the 200m line is an error-prone technique.

wait a minute, can't bekele average like 4:03 per 1600 in his 5K? And close his 5K in 4:56 for last 2K to win the Olympics in 12:57 which is 1:07 faster than Rupp. Wow, he pretty much skeets all over Rupp's face.

If my math is right, Bekele avg'd 4:02 per 1600 in his WR. -

Thank you, medival knight, i was just rough guessing it, but the point is that Rupp is nowhere near Bekele and the Africans and never will be -
Is TEAM Salazar playing by the rules. Anyone have information on the suppliments he has his athletes take that come from Canada?

Do you even have a clue are are you operating out a complete vagueness? OK, maybe he'll never reach the level of Bekele, but "and the Africans"? Bekele has pretty much been heads above the other "Africans" So comparing him to the top guy and saying he won't be able to mix up the rest is pretty silly. Why don't you do some research and see what the splits looked like for 3rd, 4th and 5th from the last few world 10k's and the last olympics? Why don't you see how many people run under 27:00 on an annual basis.
If you turds are americans, shame on you. You're comparing closing speed of someone that runs 20K in 45 hours and runs to win to someone who just has one race to focus on? Lets not forget that this was Rupps 3rd heavy double over about 4 or 5 weekends. Is it not fair to speculate that he is actually capable of more when he has less work load on his plate? -

...and everyone else's face in the world. What is your point? We would never have a descussion if we only talked about runner who could beat bekele.
