What 3000 time do you think someone would need to be running a 15:00 5k?

Daniels says (according to his pace charts at least) that an 8:37 3k is equivalent to a 15:00. But I think that someone who has trained to FOCUS on the 5000m can probably still break 15 with a recent 3k time in the low 8:40s. To put it in perspective, you'll come through 3k in 9:00 en route to a 15:00 5k, so you'd better be able to go significantly faster for only 3000m?
In your title you said 3200, so I'll just let you know that an 8:37 is about equal to a 9:14 3200.
I always remembered the conversion from high school that a 9:20 for the full two-mile was equivalent to a 15:04 5000. Take that for what it's worth.
An 8:37 is more like a 9:11/9:12 3200m
My PRs are 8:41 3k and 14:57 5k, if that helps any. I'm thinking the guy who said 8:37 is probably just about right, give or take a few seconds depending on where your strengths lie. I'm more of a longer distance type runner, for example.
I can also tell you that I know two guys who run right about 8:50 who have run just seconds over 15, as well as a 1500-type guy who went 8:29 but only 14:58. So really, it depends on your strengths.
Additionally, I can maintain a 6min/mile pace for a solid 16 miles (never tried to do more). I'm not sure how much affect that would have on my 3k/5k performances.
