That is unlikely.I think he will find it harder to tackle the 400M let alone breaking the record.
I don't think that Bolt will break the WR this year. But then again, it wouldn't surprise me if he did.
As Tommie Smith discovered, tall freak of nature 100/200 guys can run very fast 400m . . . . in his only real go of it in college he beat Lee Evans and ran a world record 44.5 (which was a low-altitude WR for many years). Considering Bolt runs more or less like an upgraded Smith, breaking 44 shouldn't be too difficult. If he focuses on it, he could break the WR. I believe Tommie Smith, in today's professional track environment, could have been one of the best 400m runners ever.
Guys, he beat MJ's 200 record by .02 seconds. That's not that much. I may just be partial to MJ but I think he had sub 19.3 in his prime, if he only had someone to chase when trying to do it. The 200 in Beijing was all out for Bolt. He clearly has more pure speed than Johnson, but over 200 they are pretty close. It took Johnson a lot of training to get to the 43.18, so for Bolt to build up that endurance after a few years of pure speed work will take a while. If he went out and ran a 400 right now I don't know if he could break 45, and the almost 2 seconds to 43 are a very long 2 seconds. (for all the distance runners out here you could equate the difference between 45 and 43.18 to the difference between a 3:50 mile and the WR).
More like the difference between a 3:55 and the WR
I hope he doen't get it.
But since Bolt is now the darling of the IOC/IAAF, they will ignore his positive drug tests. Either that, or he will be forced to retire after 2012 (like Ngeny in 2000).

Just like they ignored Ben Johnson and Justin Gatlin?
Is Bolt a doper?? I didn't know Ngeny was forced to retire (by the kenyan federation)???

Well, the IAAF is already planning on rearranging the Olympic track schedule for him to do the 100m, 200m, 400m triple if he chooses to do so. I think this is a little unfair since they are obviously doing it for their favorite and probably would not do it for any other athlete, even if they are talented enough to accomplish such a feat.
So if Bolt does the 100, 200, 400 would he also be potential going for the quintuple 100, 200, 400, 4x1, 4x4?
The corrupted IOC and IAAF can probably work out a schedule.
Why stop there?
He could get the 800m WR!

Bolt will never break 44.

No one will beat the USA in the 4x400 in a race. The US could run 3 teams under 3:00. The Jamaicans have no shot of beating the USA in the 4x400 unless they get some great drugs.
or lose the baton:)

Noah Ngeny was forced to retire by the car that hit him.
You're silly. I bet Bolt will break 44s, first try. Just like when all of you we're saying "he's a 200m specialist, he can't run a fast 100."
bolt already ran a 400 this year. and he can still get the quintuple, 1,2,4 4x1, lj. 4x4 is out of reach
Maybe first try NEXT year, when he actually starts training to run a 400. He ran a couple this year that were in the 45s...maybe he broke 45 for one. But that's still a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way from 43.17 and below.
Could he do it? Sure, why not? He ran 45s omething as a 15 year old, so why couldn't he devote an entire off-season of training to it and come back and blow everyone's minds? It sure would be interesting to watch him try. Seeing Bolt vs. Wariner vs. Merritt all at their best over 400m would be epic.
