I want to transition from ds-trainers to racing flats

also i'm only gonna be running 5ks, 10ks, and maybe 1 half marathon

i would take the DS trainers off before putting the flats on.

The DS Trainer is a good start. I suggest wearing those until you need a new pair, then trying something like the Mizuno Wave Ronin. Then eventually something w/o anything plastic in the arch, like the Asics Hyperspeed 3. You can go more minimal from there, but do this gradually. If you find a shoe that works, stick with it.

The Mizuno Wave Musha has a lower heel and better heel:forefoot ratio than the Ronin. Start rotating them with the DS Trainer. If this works well, then maybe rotate in the Asics Hyperspeed. Don't just use the lighter shoes for speedwork, it is also important to do easy/recovery runs in them.

I usually tell people to just do it, and not do the whole transition thing. But if you really want to transition, just wear the DS trainers past their recommended mileage (400+) then get a new pair of racing flats to replace them. At the end of their life, the DS trainers should be worn down and broken in to a point of almost flats anyway.

I currently do 100% mileage in brooks t6, i use to be an Asics guys till i tried these.

I was wearing flats monday when I blew out my right calf. Good luck on that transition.
