it has never been run in new york, california, or alaska.
Yes a sub 3 has been run in CA in Stockton
wish i could edit sub 4
Two questions on your querie?1. Are you looking for someone who was raised/attended HS from that state to have run the fastest mile?or2. Are you looking for the fastest mile run by anyone within that particular state's borders?

My answer (for the boys)
Wyoming - I believe it is 4:12 by either McCreery or Drake of Campbell County. McCreery has the State Meet record, but I'm pretty sure Drake has the school record, which is lower.
or
Alaska - haven't heard of anyone from this state being too fast
I pretty sure none have been run in Minnesota, cause they make a big deal at the Distance Classic about being the first to break four. I would also guess that it's never been done in Idaho, Colorado, S. Dak, N. Dak, N. Mex(?), Montana, Wyoming, and a bunch others. Just think of what places don't really have quality track meets or are at altitude.
I don't know for sure, but I doubt that a 4-minute mile has been run in the State of Vermont.
In 1973 or 1974, I watched what was publicized as an attempt at the "First Sub-4-Minute Outdoor Mile in New York State." Marty Liquori and Dick Buerkle were on pace with 200m to go, but were blasted by a gust of wind coming off the last turn ... final time was something like 4:00.3.
There has never been a 4 minute mile run in VT. A vermonter has never broken 4 minutes in the mile. THough tim simpson ran a 4 min 1600 on a relay and eric morse ran 343 in the 1500...
yeah but rule out new york as a sub 4 minute mile has been run many times over at both the armory and madison square garden

Is Madison Square Garden in NY?
California??? Are you serious?
It hasn't been run outdoors in Washington State.
RE: California
I think someone did it at HSU's Redwood Bowl in an effort to raise some cash for Mark Conover or cancer research.
No one has run a sub 4 in Montana indoors or out. It has been done with altitude ajudstment but not on straight time.
pooope, CO-Runner!!!!!!! it appears you two were not
paying attention in your history of athletics 101 class!
as penance for your inattention, go to the page

then scroll down to the line that reads:
3:51.1h Jim Ryun, AAU at Bakersfield 1967
I don't think that a sub-4 has ever been run in Nevada.
I saw Jamie Harris run a 4;04+ on the 220-yard board track at UNR in 1991, with the altitude adjustment that comes to about 3;59.99, but I don't think that it's ever been done outdoors, even in Las Vegas.
Jason
I doubt a sub 4 has been run in North Dakota, South Dakota, Alaska,
I'm positive one has not been run in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Montana, and Wyoming mostly due to the elevation of major universities there.
I don't think one has been run in New Hampshire, or Delaware.

Wrong. Ken Popejoy ran 3:59.2 in Minnesota back in the day. But no one has done it in quite a while.
Mike Slack broke four in North Dakota at an indoor meet back in the 70's...
Ohh the shame!!!
