anybody else hate dogs while running

I have a suggestion....anyone called t-bone is just asking to get bitten by a dog. Change your name dude.

buy one of those small cans of pepper spray that girls put on their key chains. they're small enough and light enough that you can clip a canister right to your running shorts. just make sure you're not down wind of the spray if you actually have to use it.

I hate dogs whether I'm running or not.

Man, I had a huge boxer chase after me today! Kept up for about 100m then I turned and yelled at it and it finally stopped.

And I'm talking about the dog, not about Mike Tyson or anyone like that.

Dogs suck! I got bit in the hand by a dog a couple of years ago. I was so freaked out that I was jumping when I saw a squirrel for the next 2 months. The good part was I sued the a--hole & got a couple thousand bucks for the scars.

Grrr I love dogs normally (I used to work in a vet clinic), but I absolutely can't stand them when I'm running.... I've come close to kicking them or throwing rocks at them on several occasions

Be the alfa aggressor at all times when dealing with any dog yell and scream.I deal with aggressive dogs as a part of my job.The pepper spray idea is good.If all else fails Run softly and carry a big Stick!!!!

I can't stand dogs when I run. The most effective way to deal with them is either throwing rocks or yelling. I try yelling first then the rocks if yelling doesn't work. I've nailed a couple of dogs in the head with a rock, it works pretty well. The first time I kind of felt bad for hurting the dog but then figured it wouldn't be an issue is they were fenced up or on a leash.

those small Chiwawa types make me laugh. Come up to me aggro and barking. If it`s owner wasn`t there I would have used it as a football and kicked a field goal.

You have every right to be annoyed, dog owners who dont leash are aholes of the first order. ALL dogs bite, it is just a matter of when. I have been chased a few times, and what works for me is to turn, stand my ground and tell the dog NO! Since they've heard that before, it usually works. I had two dogs chase me, but I could tell they were cowards, so I turned stared them down, and yelled NO! They ran away!

Yeah I do but you can't let them now you are scared.

One day I was running listing to some tunes and something told me to look back to my left...low and behold and 100lb ROT is charging at me! I pointed at him/her and said STOP! He/she stopped :-D Whew! I turned around a and kepted running of course I took a glance back to make sure he/she was not charging me again. The owners were doing yard work or something.

ok, if I had just stared down a rot, no matter how large, I think the rush of adrenaline would finish my run, give me rubber legs.

This tactic works. I did it once in college. The dog had started after me. I turned, growled, took a couple of steps. The owner started laughing when the dog turned around and went back to him. You need to behave in dog fashion, and they'll understand you.

Yesterday I had a big black dog chase me. I outsprinted it, and when I came around the second time I stared it down. It didn't chase me again. It turns out that the dog was loose and it was wandering around the neighborhood. I hate dogs and I hate dog owners!!!! Another time a dog owner just stared at me when his stupid dog was about to bite me! But I gave it a good elbow in the face and that was that. I think I am getting some spray because I hate dogs!!

I got chased by a pit bull this past sunday on the 3rd mile of my long run. I tried the "hold your ground method" but it did not work. Thank god there was a fence about 20 feet behind me. I sprinted to the fence and in one single bound leaped over it...the dog crashed head first into the fence....oh yea, pepper spray...it didn't work. I sprayed it at the dog from the other side of the fence and it was not exactly the "3-5meter stream" i was hoping for...more like i was taking a piss. Luckily i won't be training around here for quite a while.

yea, i feel the same way. i'm terrified of dogs, and i can not even count the number of times i have had to stop in the middle of my run or alter it altogether to avoid being chased by a dog. i know it's the law in most places that dogs in public must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet long, so i wrote a letter to my township about this problem...so far, no response.

Normally, I hate dogs when I see them running loose, but I'll make an exception for one that I've met lately. There's this one black mutt that I encounter several times a week along a stretch of road where I normally do my morning run. I normally see him anywhere along about a mile of road near an orchard where there are probably less than a dozen houses. He growls at me and then goes about his business. He's become one of the characters along my runs.
