A teammate of mine made a joke about distance-running Sherpas on a run the other day, but we got to thinking about it, and realized it has potential. Think about it.
1. Sherpas live at crazy altitudes and have huge lung capacities.
2. They have proven on Everest expedition after expedition that they're tough as hell. How tough can a marathon be when you've dragged somebody twice your size down a freaking 5-mile-high mountain.
3. They have the same economic motivation as the East Africans.
4. They're small.
Silly? Probably. But have there been any Sherpa runners? I am pretty convinced that if well-trained, they'd be very good.
