According to the new Qualifying Standards posted on the USATF website:
---------------------
Standard (men) & "A" and "B" Standards (women)
Male athletes who attain the Standard and female athletes who attain the "A" Standard will automatically be included in the event.

----------------------
If I am reading this correctly, any athlete that attains the standard will be automatically granted entry into the meet.
If this is the case, then looking at last year's performances, this would have been the following amount of people guaranteed entry into the meet:
800m: 61*
1500m: 59*
3k Steeple: 31
5000m: 56
10000m: 47
*Marks according to USATF stopped at 1:48.48 and 3:43.20 respectively, so there is most likely plenty more.
If I'm not mistaken, USATF generally accepts less than 30 athletes in each of these distance events.
With the exception of the steeple, it seems we will have unusually large starting fields in the distance races.
What does this mean? Are we going to see more rounds? Will there be slow and fast heats of the 10k? Is this in response to the complaints at the trials last year? Will this one "Standard" be quickened 45 days before the meet?
I'm amazed that this really hasn't been discussed before.
