Didn't Peter Elliott win the 1500 in 1990? And Ngugi lost the 5000 to.... I can't remember but he wasn't Kenyan.

Wejo,
you're WAY, WAY , WAY out with that one - please change it - Andy Lloyd of Australia won a fantastic 5000m - sprinting past Ngugui with 10 meteres to go - after Ngugi had built up a 40 m lead at the bell (he also fell in the 2nd lap before busting open the field with a 2.00min 800m - Also like the guy above says Peter Elliott dusted Kirochi in 3.32/3 in the 1500m and on the first day of competition Eamon Martin outkicked Moses Tanui in the 10k with something like a 56 sec last 400m.
Incidentally these champs were held in NZ during our (Northern hemisphere's) winter time - Eamon Martin and Tim Hutchings peaked for both the Commonwealths and the World Cross that year - held only 6 weeks apart - Hutchings was unlucky to get a cold in NZ but came back to get 2nd in the World Cross behind an unbeatable Ngugi and Martin ran well too to secure the silver medals for the British mens long course team (......sorry to harp on but it can be done Tim Broe fans)
