Cortisol is produced after aerobic exercise longer then 30-40 minutes. It causes the breakdown of muscle. It is the main reason why runners are skinny (that and genetics).
But, I have been injured for 2 weeks and have not ran, but have done equal time exercising on an exercise bike.
But, I have bulked up around the shoulders and chest big time. I have not increased food/caloric intake. The only change has been replacing running with cycling. I have not worked on the chest/back shoulder muscles at all, either when running or in the past two weeks. But, the muscles are definitely bigger. I've always bulked up quickly/easily as the runners build it not a natural one for me, but this time it is rediculous.
Can the body tell the difference between weight bearing aerobic exercise (running)and non-weight bearing aerobic exercise (biking)?
