2140- moderate support
1140- mild support
DS Trainer - mild/light weight shoe
Do you pronate? How much? what are you currently running in?
Assuming that stability shoes are right for you -
The 1140 is the lower price tier version of the 2140. Don't get it unless you are purely recreational. Even team in trainers should opt for the 2140.
I'm glad you don't list the Kayano, because its too heavy and too expensive.
The DS trainer is lighter and more performance oriented, and it should be your shoe among those options unless you weigh more than 165, in which case I'd suggest the 2140 for junk miles and the DS Trainer for workouts.
The 2140 has color options, including black, if that matters.
If you're doing a marathon and you're serious about a good time, you should step down in weight to the Bandito for the event itself.
Thanks for the info. Yeah, I run in the 2130s. Pronate moderately. I figured the trainers would be a well suited shoe for tempos and track workouts: light but still some stability. I will use the 2140s for junk miles and long runs. It's hard to find a good racing flat for slight overpronators and I will check out the bandito. Thanks!
I train and race in DS Trainers.
I laid 80 miles this week and ran a 15:19 5k, earlier today.
I am shopping for a new pair of Asics 2140. Here is what I have found online (there are a LOT of links). Looks like you have to be careful and enter a coupon code or join a “VIP Program” to get the least expensive prices. I am going to order from RunningCompanyShoes.com tomorrow unless I hear of any other suggestions.

I ended up getting the 2140 from this site,
- they had the lowest price, offered free shipping and I got the shoe in right around the week.
Quality site and I got what I wanted with fast turn around.
Take a look!

The 1140\'s dont have IGS
IGS is a necessity for any serious runner?
I thought the 2140 used Solyte and the 1140 used SpEva
The 2140 craps on the 1140 from a significant height. If you've been running in the 2130's they're not much if any different IMO.
DS Trainers as others have said are more lightweight and a solid choice for fast runs or long repeat sessions, but probably an unwise choice for everyday running unless your biomechanics are extremely sound.

BS, they aren't that lightweight. I ran 90 miles/week in them last summer with no problems, and I don't have great mechanics. If you're a serious runner (ie not fat) they're fine for every day training.
I said they are 'more lightweight' relative to the 2140's which I think is accurate. If you can cope with running in them everyday well and good, but I found in my experience I'd get pretty sore pretty quick wearing them too often.
