Nike Lunar trainer-opinions ?

I've worn mine a few times outside. They are light and have a nice cushy feel. I wish there were a bit more tapered in front. They kind of get wider near the toe box. I ran with them today on the treadmill. They felt really good on it. I am thinking of using this shoe for treadmill tempo runs.

They will work..I have been through about 10 pairs of Elites and tried the Lunars..They have a wide base ,so they have a little stability to them . I work in a running store, so I know what you mean.

I'm a fan of the lunar trainer and the lunar racer. The feel is different that most shoes. I would recommend trying them on, especially if you are going to buy them online. I run in Nike only and really can't compare them to any of their shoes. The skylon was my favorite, but, again, I really like the lunar trainer. Try 'em.

Yes, the Nike Victory is horrible for blisters, especially on the back of the heel/achilles area. Nike has to remedy that. I have a pair with 21 miles on them, if you want them!!!

Same deal here, I'm a Nike only guy, but the Victory has a serious problem with either the material or achilles notch area in that shoe. I can usually pull ANY pair of Nike shoes straight out of the box and run in them and the Victory is still terrible even after I tried breaking them in, taping my achilles and relacing the shoes.

I think that I might give the Lunar Trainers a whirl. Any other comparable Nike shoes that you might suggest ?

For lightweight neutral shoe, you might try the Skylon. It is comparable to the lunar trainer. If you can find them, the Nike Swift Vapor, was a decent lightweight trainer. My favorite is the Skylon though.

I just bought the lunar trainers and used them as racers in a half-marathon. They felt great but they destroyed my left achilles with a blister. I actually didn't feel it all race because it was so cold but it was gushing blood at the end and now my shoes are all stained blood red. Loved them though, just need how to keep this from happening! Any tips??

Do you think the little stability from the wide base in the lunar trainer is bad for an under pronater? I try to run in really flexible neutral shoes usually. I thought this shoe might fit this category but I have been having it it band/knee issues recently and wonder if they added to it.

No. Actually, it would probably be a very good shoe for all but the most extreme underpronators.

From what I have been seeing, the Lunar Trainers are more of a "passive" stability. Something about the shoe seems to resist motion in any direction besides forward. This includes rolling out and rolling in.

Now I will say, they're not incredibly flexible. They do taper off at the toe, so you still get that rolling motion, but not a huge amount of flex.

I've been running in Lunar Trainers since they came out. They are really light, and they look really cool with the yellow bottom. They don't have a lot of support, they let the foot spread like a Free, which I like. The cushioning isn't very cushy, but I can't feel the ground at all. They've also been extremely durable; they can definitely be used as a daily trainer if you're light like me.

At first I felt like my foot was planting funny in them, but now I don't notice it.

They do rub the Achilles, but so does any pair of shoes I've ever worn. I pull my socks up a bit above the back of the shoes and no worries.

I had the same issue with the Victory trainers, which I fixed by putting a Superfeet green insole in the shoe. It raised my foot enough to prevent chafing on the Achilles.

Right now I have about 500 miles on the Lunar Trainers, they are finally starting to flatten out though. I have worn them for up to thirty k without any issues. I like that they are based on the Free geometry which feels smooth for my stride. I don't know if I would call them a narrow shoe though.
