The high school sophomore ran 30:46 last weekend at the Capitol 10,000 in Austin (my condolences to Boulder, Portland, and Madison). He ran 9:03 last night to win the high school 3200 meters at the Texas Relays in Austin. Maybe he'll run for UT-Austin.
I think the Hauser twins ran about 9:02 as sophmores, too. Also, in race right before ... Chelsey Sveinsson, also a sophmore, ran a 10:12.

Also keep in mind that the 2 mile was on a Friday after that Sunday 10k, so he didn't have a great deal of time to recover from the 30:46 for the 9:03 2-miler.
It was a 3200m, which translates to a 9:07 2 mile.
Because Austin Tx is the new distance running capitol of the USA!
because it's part of the normal "texas is the greatest" attitude that is so pervasive in austin when something goes right for them. they feel the need to announce it to the world and put it on bumperstickers and flash that gay little hand sign everytime that it happens. when things don't go right, it's always someone else's fault. typical blowhards.
Clearly you are not ready for the distance running revolution centered in Austin, Tx. Maybe some day you will be.

That was a joke. Austin got trashed on here last week for not being a running town. Those other towns are often labeled the best mid-size town in America. Sure, it gets hot here in the summer, but Austin has some positive qualities. Of course, being located in Texas is definitely not one of them.
and Craig's 30:46 was on a very HILLY course.

why would you think that just because he lives in Texas, that would mean that hes going to burn out. Give the boy a chance, just because he runs a good time in his sophomore year doesnt mean that hes peaking. Did you ever think that maybe his coach knows what he is doing.
I can't wait to see whats in store the next two years. We have so much talent in the sophomores this year that it's unreal. Jim and Joe Rosa, Elias Gedyon, Zach Wills, Craig Lutz, and many more are already doing big things. The record books will be rewritten in the next few years.

I live in Texas and know of Craig Lutz. Young LutZ would often zip pass my son in the last 300 meters of a race during summer track days. I think what's more interesting about young Craig is that he is pretty low mileage to producing such monster times. Craig Lutz is the real deal and he will only get better!

Actually, the Capital 10k is a really fast course, not "Really Hilly." It's one of the fastest in Texas.
