I'm definitely not a miler, but my 5k is weak compared to my 1500. I tend to run better as the distance goes up, but for some reason, 5k pace just kills me.
I was a swimmer in high school and swam the 200 and 500 in 1:50 and 5:05, respectively. I noticed a similar thing in swimming, too. I was very weak at the 1000 and 1650 (my time for the 1000 was 10:40 and I only did the mile twice during freshman year of highschool in 19:00) compared to my 200 and 500 times. However, after that, I began to get better as the distance went up past those.
I tended to shine in long, tempo-like swimming workouts. As a runner I like long tempo runs.
