Asics Speedstars III vs. Asics DS Trainer 14

Both are lightweight but the DS has a medial post and having too much stability can cause problems. Personally, I would pay the extra money for the shoes you are using right now unless you have some issues with them. If it is not broke don't fix it.

DS 14's are a little heavier. not much, but slightly. ds trainer is 10.2 oz compared to the speedstar 8.8 oz.

The DS 14's don't have much of a post either. I'm a neutral runner and usually run in the speedstars, and the post in the DS trainers usually bother me. I tried them out and love the new DS trainers.

DS Trainer is over 10 oz., not lightweight.

get 3 pairs of speedstars on eastbay and they will be 65 each

Speedstar II > Speedstar III

I am VERY dissapointed with the last 3 models of DS trainers. I like the speedstars, though I could use a tiny bit more arch support, I am enjoying them far more than the DS trainer 14s. Will continue to buy the speedstars, which are lighter and more responsive.

This is a big difference: 1.4 oz is 16% more than the Speedster. At 90 steps per leg per minute, it equates to swinging nearly 8 more pounds of weight per leg each minute you run. If you need the support, the DS trainer is a good choice, but if you don't, the added weight of the medial support does more harm than good.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I'll stick with the Speedstars, who knows they may go down in price in a month or two, when I actually need them.
