Thanks for the serious responses. Mine is somewhat close to most of yours. My mission statement thus far:"To deliver individualized training and a competitive racing experience to the institution's student-athletes."I'm trying to explain my philosophy in 1 sentence, so that it is clearly understood by the athletes, parents and the administration."Year-round aerobic and speed development, emphasizing correct running posture so the athlete may run faster, longer."

how about you get off your lazy fat ass and think for yourself? If this is your way about puting together the mission statement, i cant imagine how lazy you are when it actually comes to coaching.
On the contrary, like I said, i've been wrestling with this for 2 years. I started coaching seriously in 2006 and had a decent philosophy/ mission statement then. One that I made in 2002, but I didn't like it. I changed things up, and as I'm finalizing mine, I wanted to compare it to others. I view it as comparing my athlete's 1 mile time trials to other's 1 mile time trials. How is that lazy?
Is the term "mission statement" corporate-ese? in a sense, yes. However, people expect it, and in an effort to show that track and cross country are serious and worthy of respect, I think we should act like it.
