Here's the deal (sorry, this is sort of long...)
I love to run. I ran cross country/track in high school and my freshman year of college, and while I wasn't exceptional, my times were always pretty good. Even when I gave up competitive running I remained a recreational runner as a means to stay in shape.
Now since I was 20 I've wanted to compete in a marathon, but now I'm 23 and have yet to do so. What usually happens is, I'll start training and eventually get lazy; before I know it I've gone 2 months without running and have to start back from square one.
It hasn't helped that I've battled depression since high school (something that has savaged my motivation in the past). I used to rely on distractions to get me through life, but would always end up retreating from the things I enjoy doing...thinking about ending it all. That is until recently. Last month I was prescribed Zoloft and Xanax and I've really noticed a change. I'm running again (training for a 10K) and feel great mentally, but I'm wondering how the drugs will effect my performance. On days I run I refuse to take the Xanax, but the Zoloft is a daily thing. Anybody else take antidepressants while still managing to compete?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
