Who ends up with the faster marathon when everything is said and done? I am betting on Runyan!
Who ends up with the faster marathon when everything is said and done? I am betting on Runyan!
...drossin...
Drossin would've run a lot faster in Chicago if she hadn't raced every month this year and focused on training instead. Case in point - Alan Culpepper.
So if Runyan runs around 2:30 or faster in New York that would be a better effort than Drossins time at Chicago?
...if we're talking about "better", i might go with runyan; if we're talking about "faster" (as you mentioned earlier), then drossin...
Deena is a beast and she is 10 times more of a gutsy runner than Marla Runyan. She ran 2:26 at NYC last year and has done it again.
Before it's all said and done she'll mark herself as the best U.S. distance runner ever...if she doesn't burn out and quit after losing interest.
You mean if she not take break in summer?
Drossin is ten times gutsier than Runyan? What have you got that substantiates that? People in Oregon say no trains harder than Runyan, and, aw heck, why even go on? They're both tough. Be grateful we have both.
Nice to see that both DD and MR have teenage fan clubs.
As for who's "gutsier," that's soemthing only an autopsy can determine.
I am confident that MR has DD's mark on her mind. But unless MR runs a faster time, DD's mark is superior no matter how much you argue course, conditions, etc etc. (Well, there's always "chip time," har har har).
i probably shouldn't even be weighing in on this, but...
i encourage everyone to read marla runyan's book, if you haven't already. you'll notice a theme that runs through the entire story: marla gets injured, marla gets impatient, marla gets injured again coming back.
i hope the fact that she has managed to stay healthy the last year or so indicates a change in her thinking and patience. but marla is FIRED UP about this marathon. she's been talking about it for MONTHS. after she won tufts on monday, it's all she would talk about with reporters. she's excited, and i'm worried that her previously demonstrated impatience (look it up), coupled with the excitement of running her first marathon in new york city, could spell trouble.
i've met marla, i think she is a phenomenal runner and an even nicer person. i'll be pulling for her all the way on november 3. but i'm nervous about what she will do when the gun goes off in a few weeks.
I am a betting man and I say she runs FASTER than Drossin did in her debut. Any takers?
Marla has moved from the 1500, to the 5k, to the 10k, and now the marathon comparatively recently. I think she'll have an excellent half way split and probably be where she wants to be at 20 miles, but I think she'll fade big-time in the last 5 miles or so because her intensity will cause her to go too hard too soon.
