Is UKA just plain crap or does fast track in its position as a promotions company discourage UKA from giving distance events more publicity and TV time as its not seen as being 'entertaining' enough? Surely UKA can look at the BMC with envious eyes and see that without them the UK would be even more devoid of talented distance runners and opportunities to run good times. With david Moorcroft at the helm I would have thought there would have been a conscious effort to promote the distance running side of things.
We have a lottery system which is paraded as being beneficial to our athletes which in practice is totally flawed, the criteria for getting support is totally unrealistic, those few who do meet the times are means tested and have their funding revoked because surprise surprise they are already making a living, thats because to hit the times you already have to be one of the top Europeans on the circuit!
Last year we also had the farcical situation of the BAL and BMC having their arces on the same day, there are few enough races of this kind of level without athletes being made to choose between them.
We also have a situation where there is 1 quality 10k track race, which is the trial race, again ridiculous, and we have at most 3 paced quality 5k's, BAL and AA's aside, how on earth are athletes supposed to progress under these circumstances.
I think the only way to push on for those sub elite athletes is to get their heads together and organise their own races, whether they are tagged on to the side of BMC meets or regional track leagues, what do people think?
