I'm a 5'6" guy and want to drop some weight to run faster. What should my goal weight be for best performance?

Anybody who can give you a number without ever having seen you is an idiot, especially as you haven't said how much you weigh now. The ideal might be 115lbs, it might be 155lbs, but without knowing how muscular you are and what your general build is like nobody can say.
2 pounds for every inch.
for distance runners it should be 1.7-1.8 lbs for every inch. 5'6 would be 112-119 depending on muscle mass/body comp.
Run a PR. Then step on the scale. You have found your answer.
Without seeing you, if I had to guess I'd say 122 to 125. But again, as some here said, it does depend on body type.
Run faster first...then worry about weight.

Why not read the thread that was up last week with the same question for the same height?
5 pounds lighter than you are right now would be PERFECT!
