We all knew that German Fernandez was a gifted runner from his high school performances in 2008; however, did any of you expect his early 2009 performances (3:56yi mile AJR, runaway win at USA Jr X-country, 7:47.97 AJR 3000m). I for one am amazed at how he is developing so much faster than I anticipated and its a wonderful surprise. CONGRATS German Fernandez!!! He certainly will be able to tangle with anyone in NCAA Indoor Championships or World Junior X-Country Championships.
I hope he does go to this year World Junior X-Country Championships healthy. Do you think German could grab TOP THREE at this years World Junior X-Championships? If he is healthy and participate I think he definitely have a shot at top 3 and even a decent shot to win!
The amazing GERMAN FERNANDEZ: how will he do at World Junior X Championships?

he will finish no better than 7th

i think he will finish in the top 10.
sidenote: i thought you would never post here again, what changed your mind? -
Probably because he wants to talk more crap about people on drugs like he did with Bolt.
-
At least top ten. Aside from a couple XC meets where he was coached to hold back, when he's run to win, he'd do so and make it look easy. That made his fall at nats all the more frustrating, because it would have been his first real challenge. It's really hard to know what his limits are.
I'd like to see him run the 5000 against Rupp and Chelanga, but he might stick with the mile/3000 indoors. Hopefully Rupp and Chelanga will double in the 3000/5000 and we'll get to see some real action.
World XC will be his next chance to show what he's capable of. I think top 3 is possible. -
he'll win.

vipam welcome back long time no post. i think german fernandez will finish between 4-8th, there will be a few 13:00- 13:05 for 5k runners in the world junior xc meet, i would not be shocked to see german fernandez go uner 13:15 for 5k on the track this year, he is for real.

Top 10 would be excellent, and a shot at top 5 is possible.

AJ, is that you? -
he did'nt look that flash in the 3km to be honest, its hard to be in mile/ 3km shape and xc shape...
He is CAPABLE of a top 5 finish.
But I think he will finish 10-13th. -
here he says he wants top 15

Top American finish in the past five years was 20th (Rupp). -
If he hits top 15, that is something to be proud of. The African juniors are, in many cases, world class runners already. German may be among the best milers in the field, but 8k XC is a different ball game.

Yes but he nearly always does better than his goal. He wanted top 5 at Conference and easily took the championship. He just wanted to break 4 and he got the World Junior Record. He just wanted 7:50 and he surpassed the American Junior Record (though on an oversize). He was hardly struggling in the 3000. He was on pace when Coe surged and then made a pest of himself by swinging wide on the turn to try to stop him from passing back. German calmly swung wider and passed him back no problem.
Aside from Footlocker in HS, and the injury at NCAA, there hasn't really been a big race where he's underperformed. -
And before this gets offtrack, heh, I didn't say Coe made any illegal move. He didn't go way into lane 2 or anything, it just slowed things down slightly, similar to when Puskedra tried to take the lead at the NON 2 mile.
And how about Derrick and Puskedra? They're no chopped liver, and I expect big things from them at nats and World XC too. -
Fernandez was 25th last year, he is in way better shape than back then so I would say top 10 is a reasonable goal.

Exactly, the two biggest cross country races of his life and he under performed in both of them. I think he was just tired for footlocker and probably would have gotten 3rd-5th had he not gone down at NCAAs. In a recent interview he looked pretty tired and might have mentioned that he was sick(?).
I think he is running well at the shorter events because his legs are fresher, but surely the time off must have effected his endurance?
Then again, he just won the 8k U.S. junior title in dominating fashion...
He seemed to be on a different level from his high school days last fall before his injury, and he seems to be on different level now compared to then, so who knows. He got 25th last year, I say he gets 8th this year. But he could be anywhere from 3rd to 20th. -
Is it "German", as in the language, or "Hermahn"?

Apart from the Aqueduct, what have the Romans ever done for us?
