What a time for Chelanga! Rupp is getting all the kudos on the front page but Chelanga had an awesome run as well.

I think it's incredible that 27 years go by until someone can break the record, then TWO people do!
I don't believe Chelanga broke any records thay he is eligible for, did he?
Chelanga broke the NCAA record, 13:20.4 by Nyambui. Sam's a good guy, my congrats to him.
A fitting comparison between Chelanga in Rupp in their races against each other...
Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

In 2016, Sam will be running for the US of A in Chicago while Galen and Al Sal are sitting at home.
I posted this on another thread.
---------------------------------------------------
It's been on several threads. I believe he's a "sophomore" but I knew of a Kenyan who ran for WSU and retired after his college career at the age of 35. At that point he had no problem telling people, because he already had his NCAA championships and degree.
Chelenga will probably be great, but what of David Kimani, Sam Kibiri, Joe Kapkory, and the one who used to wipe the track with Rupp, Rob Cheseret? It is not unusual for kenyans to succeed at the NCAA level and then go quiet after they graduate.
Fast "young" Kenyans are literally a dime a dozen, so there just isn't as much interest until they rise to the top of their ranks and remain there for a while.
A large part of the hoopla generated around Chelenga last fall was generated by Brojo predictions, who almost have a perfect record of underestimating Rupp. Rupp easily beat Sam at NCAA's despite a long summer track season and a short cross season.
Sam IS good, and still can win NCAA's but don't expect Americans to get too excited about that when there is American with a legitimate birth record in the race.
As far as him following Rupp the entire race and then getting dropped to 13:19, considering the way he blazed through cross killing people and setting the pre-nationals record it certainly worth mentioning (and has been several times) but not a huge point of interest.
Until the world has officially become a gray race, I will still get excited to see a westerner finish a long distance foot race over an E. African. The same way that I would get excited seeing any African beat a Chinese table tennis expert or a Korean badminton champ. The same way that I would get excited to see a Chilean take down and Irishman in a whiskey drinking contest. And that's the beauty of having different races and cultures, and that's the one sad thing about us all blending together that we will eventually lose. There are certain characteristics, traits & talents that are just stronger amongst certain races and cultures.
The point being, Kenyan & Ethiopians clean up westerners in long distance races like a hobby, and their physiology has a lot to do with this. So I don't see a bunch of Americans getting fired up about another Kenyan finishing close to one of our best after sitting behind him the whole race.
actually evolutionary science is showing us that due to cultural differences, human "races" are actually evolving away from each other and not towards a singular, blend of races.

I'm not sure I get this. Maybe we are talking about different points. My point is that intercultural and interacial marriages are on the rise. I have not seen statistics but my guess is the curve is steepening on this. Just as our media, business and economies are overlapping and breaking down borders, so do our sexual organs and the result is mixed children who then grow up to marry different mixed children.
I imagine that in 30 years it will be vastly different than today, and people won't be able to say "I'm half Irish and half Dutch" it will be much more common to be broken down to 1/4's and 1/8's and even "I really don't know anymore". And that is likely the way it will continue.
Obviously it may take a really long time for this to occur in certain regions.
You didn't hear anything from david kimani because he died before he graduated. Had he lived he would be a us citizen and an Olympian.
Dumbass.

yeah, like in africa, where the only time there will be mixed nationalities is after some massacre in one country forces a mass migration.

Wow, good point. Literally in that it is not an overstatement, but usually when people use that term it is.

Never heard that about Kimani, sad news.
Unless you can say the same about all the others the point remains the same though "dumbass."
No, "asleep," you are indeed the dumbass in this case.
Anyway....Sam is smart and mature guy from a solid family. I think he'll do fine. He's not going to disappear.
