Yawn. German's next 5k will probably be around 13:35.
Fernandez is WAYYY hotter than Derrick. I love watching Fernandez run so much more.
Long term Derrick will be better than German, mark my word. German will crack under all the pressure, eventually, and more importantly Derrick's an Illinois boy!!!

Upsetting? 336 1500, 357i miler, 147.9 800 guy, 47.6i 400 guy. Vs 145, 402, 341, 47.19i.
Not sure i'd call that an upset...Oregon ran Mcnamara who only went 347.9 last year, and his 341 was 2007. And Rupp is a 10k runner. So def not an upset...it's more likely an upset that Oregon was even that close! They were more impressive.

Was the race indoors?
any have splits in the DMR?
yeah, dorian rolled up rupp like a fat blunt. Split around 3:54. Rupp had a good 3 second lead about 10m roughly
So you're saying that Rupp ran "only" about 3:58..Is 10m really 3 seconds?

Runnerspace has video of dmr but cuts off right as they approach 800 mark of anchor leg. Dorian made up ton of ground early on rupp and then just sat and then video cuts out.

flotrack has the whole thing...
Arkansas splits - Alex McClary (2:55), Ben Skidmore (47.7), Chris Bilbrew (1:49) Dorian Ulrey (3:54)
"What I was most pleased about tonight’s performance was having to shuffle our lineup right before the race," head coach Chris Bucknam said. "Andy McClary’s ankle has been sore and we decided we need to give it another week’s rest. I was proud of how they reacted to shuffling the lineup. We had to move Alex McClary from the 800 meters to the 1,200 meters. We had to move Chris Bilbrew from the 400 meter to the 800 meters and Ben Skidmore wasn’t supposed to run until Saturday. Those guys had their minds set on different races and we had to make a change at the last minute and they responded well."
If Ulrey split is correct at 3:54.x
Rupp probably ran 3:57 mid to high/3:58 low
He does get at least a 20+M lead ahead of Ulrey to work with.Watch the video.
Let me amend what I said, off the watch Rupp has a 2.6 second lead at first point that all can be seen after hand offs. Arkansas wins by 1.04, you can do the math from there.
Looked to me like Rupp took it out very easy and then when Ulrey got up to him he started to push.

i heard rupp went out hard. someone said 57?
In any case, it appears that Rupp finally dipped under 4:00 — albeit converted from 1600 and achieved in a relay. He's doing just fine. We all new he didn't have blazing speed, and he's been trying to get under the barrier for a few years, so this is good to see.
And it's also great to to see Fernandez, Derrick, Puskedra doing well.
Dorian Ulrey is frosting on the cake. He surprised most everyone (except probably his coach and teammates) with his breakthrough performance last year. Looks like he hasn't lost a step.

I'm just going by the video. Compared to Ulrey, Perry and the UCLA guy he looked like he was going slow. Once Ulrey caught him they put a gap on the next few guys.
yeah, after watching the video it does look like about 20m; earlier post said it was only 10m - which is why I questioned the 3 sec estimate.Great run by Ulrey... decent effort for Rupp.

Good Derrick interview on Flotrack, going to JR Nats and WCCC.
I admire this set of runners more than the Kennedy lot,
WCCC is where it's at, I'm looking forward to this. :)

How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?

Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
