Why are the founders so clueless about the history of track and field?

Plenty of younger people who were kids in Mack's era don't know the story, or a complete history of the sport.

It's not like Mack was a household name.

Quit being such a dried up, bitter complainer.

Either add something to the Mack thread to help the younger guys learn the story or piss off.

I honestly thought you were referring to the Founders of our constitution when I saw this post, and was befuddled why you were asking.

But plenty of younger people don't try to pose as experts in a field that they're not attuned to. What makes you think I'm bitter? If I had something to add to the Mack thread, I would. However, you came to this thread and added nothing so maybe you should piss off.

I remember David Mack, but Mack was hardly a major figure in the sport. Not knowing how David Mack was is no big deal.

OK runner experts, name another runner named Mack, from the east coast. This goes back a few years.

I agree with the OP. Take some 30 somethings that are seriously into the NFL, let alone run a damn NFL news and discussion site, and mention the name of a player who is #3 all time in passing, receptions, TDs, etc, and I'm certain that they'd know a thing or two about the player in question.

I'm no older than Weldon or Robert, but I know Mack because at some point I looked over the all-time US 800m list. Why wouldn't I if I'm so into the sport?

You look over all time 800m lists? Wow, you lead an exciting life.

I'd be willing to bet that if you put a quiz of runners on the front page, the majority here would know most if not all the top runners from distances 1 mile and up but only a few from a mile down to the sprints. No matter what age they are.

Mack is an almost forgotten runner that was known only to hard core track fans and law enforcement.....and people who spend their free time going over old 800m runners on the web.

They're not public servants, chosen by voters for - well, whatever reasons voters have these days - and accountable to them.

They're not Captains of Industry or heads of academia, having done their time, demonstrated mastery, risen through the ranks.

They're entrepreneurs in the unregulated world of T&F websites. Only qualification is that they're able to keep LRC "on the air"... well OK, they're not stellar at that either. If any of us feel it's important to frequent only the sites of the more fully clued, well, Wejo and Roger ain't holding a gun to any of our heads.

Drew, according to wejo, Mack was "before his time".

Wejo doesnt know much about Macks running exploits, just enough to know he may have killed B.I.G.

I thought this attack on the LR founders was strange as well, and wondered if the OP had an alternate agenda for the post.

It seems all the more strange when I consider the OP's relationship with Blowing Rock Master, a guy who claims to be an expert at everything and anything (depending on his handle that day), but in the end is qualified to speak on very little.

Thanks to Wejo for the thread on Mack's history. I had never heard the story, and found it interesting, unlike so much of the economics, global warming, and broadcaster's with the biggest boobs threads that clog up this site.

I'm sure that looking up that info this day in age requires hours upon hours of research, driving to libraries, and making a few phone calls, so anyone who knows that obviously has no life.

Wejo ran 28:04 and placed 4th in the 10k at the US Champs twice.

Rojo is the cross country coach at Cornell. He qualified for the Oly Trials in the 'thon in 2000 or something.

Interesting post Drew. You put both David Mack and Flo-Jo in the same paragraph. Few people know that they were an item, and the chivalrous Mack honored her by showing all of his teammates at Oregon naked photos of her.
