Environment minister Sammy Wilson: I still think man-made climate change is a con
Thank you for sharing. You are valued.
You're very welcome!
I have a decent background in the natural sciences (BS in geology, MS in geochemistry, started but never completed a PhD), and for the most part, I agree with him. Much of the scientific "evidence" is falsely presented to achieve a specific political or economic agenda, either knowingly or unknowingly. Years from now we will look back and wonder why we have spent billions of dollars on something with such a weak scientific foundation. Climate change is the biggest environmental bandwagon I can think of, and really an embarrassment to the sciences.
We have pollution problems but the solution isn't making carbon the villain and skewing numbers to scare the public.
The solution is cleaning up our lakes, continuing to plant trees in areas we destroyed them. Waging a war on plastic bags, carbon, methane, meat eaters will never be the real solution.

How is this the solution?
Wow, although aGeochemist has only a half-baked GEOLOGY education and Sammy Wilson has a complete lack of any formal science education, I'm convinced that humans have no impact on climate change. And even if there is a slight chance that our releasing of carbon into the atmosphere has an effect on the climate, who cares? I'll be dead before there are any major impacts on quality of life.
Thanks for clearing that up!
Are you saying someone with a research background in environmental chemistry doesn't have relevant knowledge to the topic? And how is an education in "GEOLOGY" not relevant? Besides, Sammy (or myself) never said that humans "have no impact on climate change". The theory of greenhouse gases has long been known, but the effect of temperature on the production of CO2 is much more dramatic.
Who cares? I care because public resources could be used studying and enforcing much greater environmental and health issues.
that the climate is warming is not in dispute by anyone with their wits about them. is the warming due to human activities, or is it part of a larger warming/cooling cycle that the earth has gone through for millennia? that is the question.
regardless, there are too many people. the earth will correct this, one way or another.

Thank You Al for thinking about cleaning up the place I live in. Hugs.

"There are too many people."
On what do you base that statement?
On the population's growing exponentially? Oh, but it hasn't been--for decades, actually.
On the population's not getting enough to eat? Oh, but curiously enough, in recent years the percentage of humans who've been getting enough to eat has been higher than in any previous period in history.
"The earth will correct this."
Y'know, the planet is doing just fine, and probably will be doing fine for the next X billion years (until the sun's penultimate expansion). Humans aren't even a pimple on its a$$.
Now *life*--human or otherwise--may do humans in; but a great dying like that could happen now, or when the human population is at ten billion, or when it has shrunk to something below where it is now. In any case, the planet will get by just fine.
absolutely, nothing we do matters as we are all dust in the wind
Humans will be gone long before the penultimate expansion of the sun. The earth's temp constantly increasing because the sun is giving off heat, losing mass, losing gravity, expanding, and thus radiating us more. We've got about 500 million years left tops before this place is uninhabitable for humans.
But remember, most of our technological advances have been made in the last 600 years. So we're not cooked yet...
No, you are a fraud. Get your head out of the sand.
Agree.

maybe but the world still has a major pollution problem....can we agree on that?

Like what? We have barely even begun to clean our wasteful and polluting ways. For god's sake our cars' fuel efficiencies haven't changes in 20 years. It's a freaking joke.

Uh, no. What's the deal with all the ignorance from you folks?
A few points I think should be made:
-In the modern era, when Science overwhelmingly (and Science does overwhelmingly agree on this) agrees on something they are far more often than not correct.
-Having a politician or even a reputable scientist speak out against our current ideas on climate change should get our attention but the vast majority of the worlds smartest people think we are causing global warming.
-In the article he said that the most politicians couldnt explain climate change... I frankly dont care. If my cardiologist and 99 percent of all cardiologists say I need to have an operation I may look into the background of the operation but even if my opinion differs from my ddoctors I will still have the operation because I am not a doctor.

If by "warming" you mean "getting colder" then yes, for the past 10 years the earth has been "warming."
