But seriously, everyone should understand that Mark Covert was a great runner. The streak is not his greatest accomplishment.
I don't remember his times in the 70s so I hope someone can find them and report them here, but he kicked my butt all the time and I was a 2:20 guy.

He was a top D2 guy from Cal State Fullerton; competitive with most college guys from all divisions, if I recall.
I only met Mark when he was past his prime and I didn't have much trouble out running him...I came to really respect him years later when I did some research about how fast he really was...and although a little crotchity at times he was a nice guy...
early 70s were his heyday.
