The numbers for Nike Cross Nationals are abysmal. I think it's the recession that's causing it. Pepole need to spend what they have an food not Chinese products. The Olympic Trials scandals doesn't help Nike either nor does the conflict with Footlocker.
The parking lot at Portland Meadows was 1/4 of what it was before and gas in less than $2/gallon in Oregon.
It's bad for everyone. Retail sales are down. 1,000,000 laid off. Nike's are luxury priced and people would rather buy milk and Top Ramen.

Actually, FL West is dying off. They've scaled way back on the number of races, and there were drastically fewer spectators than I've ever seen there. The atmosphere is nowhere close to what it used to be. Yesterday during the recognition of top finishers there were only a handful of people hanging around.
It's time to adopt one system for post-season. Nike's absence from FL has left the San Diego event woefully short of past years. Portland Meadows is a horrible site for NXN, but if they can find, or build, a cool course everything should fit under the Nike umbrella.
The FL Finals were the biggest ever last year and FL is more popular than ever. But given the economy, we expect less turnout in SD this weekend. We hope to see a better turnout after the economy and employment improves.
