100% truth my dogs (weimaraner and a weimador ok a mutt) just ran 29:03 for 6 miles on dirt logging roads. Their pacing was terrible but I found they could handle long periods of running over 15 miles an hour.
I woke up this morning and since we didn't get a chance to run yesterday, they were bouncing off the walls at 6:00am. I had a run planned later in the day and I knew these dogs were going to be bananas if they didn't get a quality session in this morning. So we drove over to our dirt road we run everyday. I think the fact the dogs are very familiar with the route helped them run this fast today as they were very comfortable leading the way.
So we pulled up on the old logging road and I opened the doors to the jeep and they jumped out. I slowly started driving and within 400 meters they had figured out that I was going to be following them in the car today instead of running with them and it was on. They were moving from then on out and having a blast. They even ran into the woods a couple times only to appear up the road 50 meters or so and back onto the designated route. These were not shortcuts if anything they added distance.
Now these dogs run a lot and have handled 100 mile weeks and I have had them run a 10 mile run in under 53 minutes with me before, but what I saw today was amazing. They even stopped once to role on a dead deer! then they were right back at it. Now they are laying in front of the fire for a well deserved rest.
