If you are using Excel start in cell A1 (the upper left-hand corner of all the boxes shown). Then, follow the description below:
a) click on "format" and then select "cells";
b) next, find "custom" at the bottom of the open white window and select it;
c)clear the little window that pops up and input the format of time you want. For example, let's say you want to input 5k times; input "mm:ss.0"; which give you minutes, seconds and tenths (you could put two zeroes; if you want hundrethds of a second). Note; be sure to input either one or two zeroes rather than the letter "O."
d) select "ok" at the bottom of the window in the gray area. Now, you are back to where you started (in cell A1);
e) input the time you want to the cell A1; let's ay 15:00.0 (which is 15 minutes even with zero tenths of a second);
f) copy the time you input to cell A1 to a different cell (let's say cell B1, which is adjacent and to the direct right of cell A1). To copy simply press CTRL C, and then to paste in cell B1 just press CTRL V;
g) then, input specific comman instructions to cell B1, which refer (back) to cell A1. Example for cell B1: =A1/3.106856, which gives you the average per mile split of 15:00.0, which is in cell A1. When you click "enter" on your keyboard (after you input the formula to cell B1), the answer (4:49.68 - your per mile split) will show up;
h) if you want to figure out percentages of 5k pace for training purposess; copy cell B1 to C1. Then, type in a formula such as "=B1/.75". Once you tap "enter" on your keyboard, the time "6:26.24" will be present. That's your 75% speed of 5k pace.
Your Excel should look like this:
"A" column "B" column "C" column
15:00.00 04:49.68 06:26.24
Hopefully, when I select "Post Message" the alignment will look the same as when I am typing this.
Take care & good luck!
