I get confused. Are you supposed to count warmups/cooldowns?
I ran 1 mile to where I did a workout. Ran 1 mile back. and did a 8 mile run later in the day. Is this a 10 mile day or 8 mile day?

if u were running it counts.. so the total for the day is 10 miles
neither u have to add in how many miles u did in ur workout its a 10+ mile day
I don't think that how you "count it" will make any difference in the effect that the workout has on your fitness, so feel free to count it however the hell you wish.

The only reason to have a log is to be able to more accurately tweak your training. So if you are running particularly well you can look at your log for the last six months and see what you were doing, then do more of it or similar things.
To that end how you total the mile doesn't really matter but an accurate description does, so write an entire paragraph describing your run for the day if necessary.
Total mileage is just an easy 'one look' method to get an estimate about how hard you are working.

Nope. Only miles on concrete should be included in weekly miles.
