I'd still like to know how it unfolded. Did he get spiked? Did he pull up like he was shot? Did he limp to a stop? Any eyewitnesses on here to fill in the gaps?

I heard a shot come from the grassy knoll.
I was watching from about 10 meters away from German when it happened. He and his teammate Kosgei were running right next to each other in the chase pack for 3rd place. It looked like they were about to make a move to break away from the pack, then all of sudden I saw German's face grimace in pain and he collapsed in the middle of the course. He rolled off the course still writhing in pain on the ground. It was obviously either a sprained ankle or an achilles injury since he was grabbing his ankle. It looked like achilles since he was grabbing the back of his ankle, and the reports have proved it to be an achilles problem. Those tendon and ligament injuries are tough to come back from. I just don't hope I saw the beginning of an injury plagued career for one of America's best young runners. We'll see what happens.
Some people on this forum are using "torn" and "ruptured" interchangeably and there's a pretty big difference between the two, so I'm curious which it is.
I was walking past him as they were loading him on the cart. He was in pain, but not the crying/screaming variety. I'm not a medical guy, but I'm inclined to think it's not quite as serious as the conspiracy theorists seem to think.

Only time will tell, most people lack the necessary x-ray vision to see into his ankle.
I was standing about 20 meters away, and that other report sounds accurate to me. I saw him in the chase pack, looking fine, then all of a sudden he stumbled, grimaced, hopped, and fell. Then someone tried to drag him off the course and several people yelled, "Don't touch him!" I guess it was quickly obvious that he wasn't going to get up and start running again, so some people dragged him off the course.
I don't know if he got spiked, but I would guess not. I didn't see any blood, and I don't think anybody could have been able to tell.
I dont mean to sound dumb or anything but, What does getting spiked entail?
Getting clipped or stabbed by the spikes of another runner (or yourself, if you're clumsy).
I heard Germandez suffered from a severe case of vagisitis.
nope, there was sand on his achilles.
I was at work this afternoon when the Cowboy team stopped by our restaurant on their way to the airport. GF's ankle was wrapped up, but the limp wasn't too significant. It's probably not as serious as some people are making it out to be.
Yep, I was about 10m in front. I looked like there was bumping in the chase pack and the Iona guy stumpled like he was spiked. I then saw the dark hair and Orange singlet of German.
He was definetly in some pain and rolled to his back writhing. After a few moments a crowd member pulled him off so he would not interfeir with the rest of the participants..
the gods knew there was only one way to stop him...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I was running in our conference meet on a wet course like at nats and on similar terrain and had the same thing happen to me was running with no prior achilles problems and felt a pop in my achilles and was in a lot of pain but not enough to be yelling and dropped right to the ground and couldn't walk at first they thought it was partially torn achilles but ended up being a torn plantaris tendon which runs right behind the achilles and was only out about a month so there is hope
That damn Puskedra spiked him.
I heard that they are amputating
The tendon behind the achilles tendon is the soleus and your so called plantaris tendon would have something to do with the foot.
uhhh, you are completely clueless in your anatomy there, big guy. it's people like you who talk out of their butt that are a real problem. don't comment if you have no clue what you are talking about. seriously.
