I ran the 8k last year and then ran the second half of my wife's marathon, so I can help a little.
Half and full start together, and they split off just shortly before the half finish. Pay attention for it.... last year some of the leaders missed the split (it was clearly marked and there were volunteers yelling "half this way, full that way", but if you're in the final 500m "zone" I suppose it can happen) and ran and extra few minutes. My suggestion is to do the warmup on that part of the course to make sure you know where the split happens.
We didn't use the bag check, but it looked like a very good setup to me. There were a bunch of panel trucks, each taking bags for numbers X000 to X999 etc. Fairly well laid out I think. Not sure what drop off or pickup line ups were like, mind you, but pickup didn't look bad around the 3-high mark for the marathon.
