I agree that we, corporately, did not come to the post-season meets prepared to take races rather than have them handed to us, but if you reference RCC (Rupp Certification Catalogue) you will find that our home course, upon which Indiana Intercollegiates was run, failed its Rupp certification on multiple criteria. So even though I do not contest that our season went miserably, I must insist that our demons are not the ones you suppose.

Congratulations to Butler and all the other Great Lakes teams that made it out. I'd say, 'See you next year' only I never have to run cross country again.

Indiana was in 3rd or 4th at the halfway point on Saturday, they just faded badly the last half.

They lose 3 seniors in top 6 including top 2.

Did Helmer even go back to IN after the meet, or was it straight to DC? Good thing they got rid of Chapman, we used to go to Terre Haute to run in the race not watch. Ronnie got handed the best recruiting class in America two years ago and this is where he taking it. Thanks for restoring us to our rightful place in the Big Ten...I liked going to NCAA's more.

This is what happens when you take 4:15, 9:15 guys who had to run 85 miles a week in highschool in order to stand out in Indiana. After 4 years they are 4:14, 9:10 guys.

A good coach realizes his/her weaknesses and makes necessary changes the following season. sure it's possible the runners just had a bad race. But I don't believe a coach should say (basically what helmer said): "they are better than that, i am disappointed..we'll just keep working harder and harder..."

So my point is...maybe its not a matter of "working harder and harder." rather, maybe its a matter of the type of training they are doing

There are plenty of teams that qualified to nationals without any Kenyans. In fact, I think all of the teams in Indiana's regional that qualified to nationals did so sans-Africans.

due to residual love for Chapman, Helmer gets a bad rap. Helmer's a lot like Crean in that he has some rebuilding to do. he chose to redshirt all of his freshmen this year, and my bet is it will pay off next year and down the road. IU is a very young team, and aside from Plotner, they didn't really have any reliable upperclassmen. plus, they lost Kyle, who's now Colorado's #1.

don't lose faith in IU. they'll be back. chapman was a chronic underachiever, and he only looked good because of the jeffersons and haas, who were phenomenal talents in the first place. not too tough to make 3 foot locker guys all americans at least once, or to take 405 and 407 HS milers with crazy talent under 4 by their senior years.

Yeah he underachieved. Average finish of #2 in the Big Ten during his career after having to build up a team that was the worst in the Big Ten when he got there. That sucks that he only got a national champion and and runner-up, got them to run 3:56-3:57, HAAS broke Bob Kennedy's records, and I don't have the time to look into all of the All-American certificates his athletes earned. But Jordan Kyle was nothing amazing in HS, Redman ran 4:03, Powers was an All-American...damn, yeah those guys were incredible Footlocker talents. People think that since Chapman didn't win a national championship or a Big Ten team title, he underachieved. He had Wisco to go up against. If you can honestly tell me that it's a good thing to fire guys like Chapman or Pate, then you are ignorant, brainwashed, and have been greatly misled. Fine if you support Helmer and his young staff, but you suck if you try to say that Chapman is a bad coach. Oh, damn, Jordan Fife goes under 4:00 and runs steeple in 8:30's now. Yeah...you guys are right. Chapman sucks. You guys all suck.

2 IU guys are still running the big race: Kyle and Fruin.

Looks like they made the right choice after IU made the decision to take a bath in mediocrity with Helmer.

Say what you want about Chapman (I ran for ISU and never liked IU) but he brought average HS runners like Kyle and Powers to all american certificates and pretty fast times (Powers ran something like 13:45?).

Helmer suffocates talent. Damn shame for IU.

It was so obvious that this thread was going to turn into a Chapman lovefest. The word on Helmer is still out. As a high school coach in Indiana it is far more enjoyable working with the current staff.

If Chapman was such a great coach why do you think Nike forced the Jefferson twins to leave? Why do you think he hasn't been hired elsewhere? If you think he is happy where he is at, then you have been drinking the Kool-Aid. He would not leave the folks at Stanford alone throughout the most recent hiring process.
