Road 5K in XC Racing Shoes?

To avoid injuries wear trainers (asics are fine), plenty of cushioning.

XC shoes not suitable for hard road surfaces and likely to cause injury.

Wear the Hyper XCs (Spikeless). I did 22 miles on the roads this morning in this shoe.

You'll be fine. It's no worse than a 5K - 10K on the track. Back in the day a number of us ran a 10 Miler in Nike Waffel Racer (the lime green and black ones). A bit sore the next day... by no big deal.

Bullocks. I run over 100 mpw, all in xc shoes. The majority of my running is on the roads, and not one injury in 3 years going minimalist.

OP, if you've had no nagging injuries this season, and are used to wearing your xc shoes in cross--meaning you've worn them in hard efforts at least once per week in workhouts or races, you'll be fine.

Ric Sayre(sp?) ran the LA Marathon in nike waffle racers and won or placed high, IIRC.
