I'm sure that's the last of the Russian dopers. All other performances by RussFed athletes are certainly clean now. Besides, it's not like there are any very recent races in which they have placed highly or set any kind of records, now are there...?

I'm not familiar with these names like I was with some of the first batch, like Soboleva. Are any of these people real worldbeaters?

Maybe it's the Russian RaceWalking Farm Team. I know that Igor Yerokhin was supposed to race the 50k in Beijing, but mysteriously DNSd instead. The Russian who won gold in the 20k, when asked by T&F News about his convicted teammates, only answered "I know nothing of these matters."

Don't get the wrong idea, I'm not following the sport of racewalking or anything. But can you believe they dope in walking?

No, I think these are new convictions, depending on what you consider "new" in this case. I looked up another one of them, Burayev, on the IAAF site, his suspension is listed from 9/9/08 to 8/9/10.

Of course Yerokhin too is new because he was set to race in Beijing. Both of these guys are racewalkers, I'm too lazy to check the other guys.

We should send over our top doping advisors, and share the methods the Americans and Western Europeans use to avoid detection.

Okay, not too lazy after all. They're all racewalkers except for Usov, who's a 400m man. One or two of them competed in the National Championships, I guess Russia had some kind of heads up between then and the OG so they pulled them off the team.

It's a whole new kind of competition: everyone is dirty, and it's a race through the drug testing gauntlet to see who can come out the other side. In this case, four Russian racewalkers made it through, two of them won gold. Okay I'll hold off posting now for a while.

Sergey Morozov was the World Record holder in the 20k racewalk.

Aleksey Voyevodin was the bronze medalist in the '04 olympics at the 50k racewalk, and silver in the '05 world championships.

Julia SMIRNOVA was also a premier racewalker.

Unbelievable is all I can say. I'm not sure what should be done but the this unfortunately is just going to reinforce the prejudice I have when analyzing all Russian performances and most Moroccan. I know that's not PC to say but I do know that most of the higher ups in the sport privately believe the same thing.

It emerged Thursday that the athletes are mostly from the sport of walking and include Vladimir Kanaykin, the 20-kilometre walk world record holder, and Alexsey Voyevodin, 50km bronze medalist at the Athens Olympics in 2004, who both tested positive for EPO in an out- of-competition test in Saransk in April.

Another of the athletes is Sergey Morozov, who set an as yet unratified world record of 1 hour 16 minutes 43 seconds in the 20km at the Russian National Championships in Saransk in June, becoming the first man to break the 1:17 barrier. Kanaykin was second, also under 1:17, in 1:16:53.

Morozov, a previous World Cup and European Cup 10km champion, subsequently tested positive on July 20 while fellow walkers Igor Yerokhin, Anatoly Kukushkin, Igor Erokhin and Viktor Burayev also failed dope tests.

Steeplechaser Roman Usov and long-distance runner Yulia Smirnowa have also been banned.

Kukushkin tested positive for the designer drug carphedon at the national championships in Saransk on June 8 while Usov failed a dope test for the same drug on July 18 in Kasan. Smirnova tested positive for Strychnine in March.

Last month, seven Russian athletes were suspended for two years by the Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) for tampering with doping samples.

Along with runners, the Russian Rowing Federation has been in trouble in the last few years with doping.

A number of their boats were thrown out of the 2007 World Championships after institutional doping was confirmed. It was the third major doping offense in less than 18 months for the federation.

For the Russian athlete it is all about the money , little "state" support if any , not much shoe company money if any ( bonus for records and medals in lesser events ), they are willing to risk it all.

Lack of quality masking drugs that others can afford , they roll the dice.

Marathoning and road racing offer great dollars and little risk of quality testing as seen in track events for the distance types.

Strychnine- amazing, yes it is a performance enhancer, but it is also a deadly poison. Anybody else read much Agatha Christie? Man, sometimes people who dope amaze me with their stupidity.
