I'm guessing the miles were pretty accurate as it is along their course and in the background I'm pretty sure I saw permanent mile posts, but who knows.
If the miles are pretty accurate though, it is impressive that German (and Vail too), are able to run 4:16 on grass for the last one. Obviously these guys avg. close to 4:40/mi for 8k, but still, after five repeats German just ran half of his record breaking two mile last year on the xc course at 7am.
Plus, after seeing the Big 12 results it doesn't look like these guys are mere workout heroes. They are obviously putting up the results to back up workouts such as the one on Flotrack.
Uh, it's cross, it's not 100% accurate no matter what your wheel of pain tells you. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure those guys are moving, but I seriously doubt that they are running an actual mile, and if they are I doubt they are starting at the same elevation then they are ending at, or the elevation changes are in a very favorable way to run fast.(hell I've run some fast miles in cross with little effort because I've been on fast courses, it's not hard.) The question we should be asking is how other OK state greats have done THIS workout on THIS specific course and how they compare. My guess is that this is a standard workout and the place they are doing it is a standard practice spot so that info should be out there. Hell I'd be happy to hear about what they did this workout in at the beginning of the season and how the times are different.
