Tergat #2---Letsrun has lost it.

I thought that they weren't so much picking top 5 finishers as likely winners. You can bet against a Paul Tergat but it is hard to count him of the chances of winning entirely.

That is not true. Their explanation for Catherine Ndereba says that she "WILL NOT WIN".

Look at it this way, everyone thinks Tergat is finished. He has run NYC twice in the past 3 years, winning once and finishing third. If Hall had the same record everyone here would be predicting an american champion lol.

Tergat hasn't lost it, he may not have all of the speed he once had but he is still pretty damn fit and he knows how to race. We will see on Sunday but I would be suprised if he didn't finish in the top 5. He does seem very motivated to win after just missing catching Gomes in 06.

Tergat = GOAT.

Your example is PERFECT. In 2006 no one picked Gomes to finish in the top 5 and he beat Tergat. Tergat is 2 years older than when he got beat by a nobody (at the time). Since that time Tergat hasn't gotten any better. In 2006 if Tergat had run a 61 minute half marathon we would have wondered what was wrong with him. Now he runs a 61 minute half marathon and we call it a "comeback".

Tergat started training again specifically for NY and ran that half as a rust buster. Anyone who has ever trained for a marathon knows that your performances at every other distance aren't going to be as good. THis is why we see Lel, Goumri and Hall running 29 minute 10k's from time to time. This is why KK used to run a 1:03 half and then a 2:06 marathon.

Tergat hasn't run a serious race since London 07 so you're right, it's a big question mark, but I don't think you can count him out just yet. I would still take Tergat in a head to head race against any of our US guys.

However, your comments about Tergat could have been more inflamatory.

Obviously the greatest part of our sport is that there is a judgement day. I just think that it was an idiotic pick. I believe that he has zero chance of finishing second. We will see on judgement day.

For those that think this is an attempt at being a troll, you are wrong. I actually believe that the second pick by Weldon and Robert is a form of trolling. I believe that by picking Tergat at number 2 is an attempt to draw discussion. I don't believe anyone that follows the sport with anything other than their heart believes that Paul Tergat's best days are waaaay behind him. I also don't believe that Paul Tergat at 80% is good enough to win a well assembled elite field in New York.

Weldon and Robert have now put up their reasoning and it is official Weldon and Robert are the official puppets of Mary Wittenburg.

They used his 61:33 as evidence of fitness. I predicted that they would use that. Why? Because that is what Mary says.

They also used the fact that he didn't run the Olympics and is fresh. This was also something that Mary has talked about at every chance. This is the dumbest statement ever. ROD DIXON IS ALSO REALLY FRESH. He hasn't raced in nearly 20 years.

The NYRR have found a mouth piece, and sadly it is LETSRUN.COM.

Ok we get it - there is no way Paul Tergat, the second-fastest marathoner of all-time, can win the New York marathon. Dude, we're sorry it wasn't that obvious to the Blowjos. It's ok, man, chill. Tergat is training specifically for NY and fresh as an old guy can be. If he doesn't win, that's fine, but I'm rooting for him anyway.

I am rooting for him as well. This is not about our dreams. It is about a prediction. I normally have great respect for Weldon and Robert but this prediction is not based on knowledge.

I want Rod Dixon to win and Jerry Lawson to finish runner up. I also want Rod Dixon to wear that helmit cam again. I just realize how ridiculous this is and in no way would make it a prediction.

The NYRR are great and that is because of Mary Wittenburg. I think that she is the best leader of the NYRR ever. I include Fred Lebow in that statement. I understand 100% why she keeps hyping Tergat. It is good for her race. It provides hype. That is a good thing. The same was true with the Lance Armstrong show. It was good for the ING New York City Marathon. I even understand why RW and RT and every other publication jump all over the Tergat story. I JUST THOUGHT THAT LETSRUN WAS ABOVE THAT. Usually when we are fed a load of shit, letsrun will not jump on the band wagon. Obviously I am wrong.

I agree. I hope that wejo has free meals at Tavern on the Green for a month or something equivelant. He has become just another fan. Tergat is all fluff and no stuff on the world level. Did you notice that when Cheriyot scratched from the Olympics, they still didn't put Tergat in? Stick a fork in him.

Sorry, but your troll callout was this week´s most misplaced.

You've got to be kidding me. Nobody in NYC has any idea who Paul Tergat is. They don't know Abdi or Kara either. If Mary was truly shilling, she'd be plastering them all over.

Tergat can win on sunday,that is a fact and even the haters amoungest you know it.

But personally iam going to predict an Asbel Kirui win;this guy pace set for Haile at berlin and stayed with him upto the 32 kilometer mark.

The race(without pace setters) will not suit Goumri and so he will not win even if he is on top form.

I think the women's race will be more interesting.Goucher will kick Radcliffe arse.

Iam amazed by the way Wejo and Rojo have written off Ndereba.....
