Do you like the 400 or the 1500 better? Those races are very different, and you should train for the one that you enjoy more. Either way, it sounds like the 800m should be your primary event.
I'm a 400/800 guy. My coach makes me run one 1500 per season and I dread it. I also know some pretty good 800/1500 guys that would rather do an 8-mile tempo run than run a leg on the 4 by 4. Just pick what you like.
I've always wondered the same thing. I run 51.5, 1:57, and 4:28 (1600), but I like the 400 more. But I'm still doing 1500 training. Just go with whatever's been working, I guess.
yeah i dont know what would b the better option i think 800 is defintily my strongest event but dunno wjich way to go with it the 4/8 way or the 8/15 way,ive ran a lot more 1500s n only really 2 proper 400 races so i htink there potentiAL there perhaps?
400/800 runners are the most badass people in track and field!!! It would be really sweet if you could run a fast 200 also, a la Becca Noble in high school.
Way cooler than the dime-a-dozen 800/1500 types.
Right now you look like an 800/1500m guy but you don't have a ton of speed. Go with the 1500 for this year but you might have to move up in distance to more 1500-5k soon.
Definitely 1500 with only 53.75 speed. I'd say most respectable college 800m/1500m runners (say 1:55 level) have 400m speed of 51.5 or better.
You're too slow for the 800m. You're too slow for the 1500m, too. Keep training, improving your times at shorter distance with the knowledge that your greatest success will be at longer distances. Put it this way: Ryan Hall ran 50.5 for 400m and he was too slow for the 1500m and just about everything short of the half marathon.

He might be fast enough for his own talent potential in the 1500 though.. and that's not to say he can't improve his 400. That being said, your 1500 is better than your 400, although I would work on improving basic speed, something that will help all of your races.
