a serious answer... Fam multiple olympian and very high in the all time 5k
Ok, I guess I have to set some rules.
1. The runner had to be in the same time era as Kinney/FL.
2. They had to be a distance runner.
Some good answers on Fam, Falcon and Flanigan.
and possibly a rule for a sub-question:
3. Attempted to qualify for FLN and failed, i.e. actually ran a FL regional meet.
Brent Vaughn? I know he never ran it. I don't know if he missed it in the regionals. I think he ran regionals his Junior year but had an injury or illness or something his senior year. I'll do some research.
13:18 last year though.
Christian Hesch
Vaughn...he did run regionals and failed to qualify. big disappointment for him. later on that year ran 8:45 3200? or 8:48. so got his revenge. turned out pretty good for him in college too.
The US Runners did o.k.
Carl Lewis.
Allen Johnson.
Dawn Harper.
Joanna Hayes.
Inger Miller.
Allyson Felix.
Kerron Clement.
... and the list goes on...
Falcon ran at Kinney Nationals in San Diego in 1983 and bombed.
The year Matt Guisto won.
Maybe the pressure got to him.
