I saw a photo of Ralph Serna running a 5:25 mile in 7th grade.
How fast were you?

Great thread.
I ran 7:41. I wouldn't win any "most improved awards," although I will say that I now run sub-6's for the marathon.
Most of the improvement was between grades 7 and 8. I went down to 5:49.
Can't remember what I ran in 7th grade. I know in 8th grade I wanted to break 6:00 in PE class - think I only managed about 6:10 or 6:15. Busted a 2:27 in the 880 in track, so clearly lacking some endurance.
5:45 7th grade :)
5:19 this summer (senior in college) YIPPEY!
7:22
5:55 in 7th grade but I went to jr/sr high school so that was when I was running on a hs cross country/track team. ran 4:32 in hs, 4:17 in college, probably a few ticks better then that now.
6 sumthin
5:47
I ran 7:40 in 7th grade. I think the fastest in my class was 5:40. Then everybody got fat on cheetos, and went all downhill from there.
6:03
6:04 in 6th grade. Not sure about 7th.
Man that age is fun. The improvements you see year to year are massive.
I remember running maybe 4:16 in 7th grade but didn't run much after that. I got into some trouble much later, ended up in very bad place, got inspired, and remember, again, running a sub-four mile in crappy shoes, on crappy track, in dusty conditions, in hell-hole of place, with no pacers, and no-carbo-loading in crappy cafeteria, with crappy knee-high socks, with few cheering, and no good timekeepers...

I know it. And remember how you could get your "second wind" by almost hyperventilating, but STILL recover in the 3rd lap and run even faster. Ahhh those were the days. I do that now, I guarantee i go to the hospital.
6:59 in 7th grade.
5:22 in 8th grade.
5:35 in 7th grade, my first year on the track team.
When I was in the 6th grade, I went to the track by myself and ran a mile. Did in in 6:00. It hurt so bad, I decided that was too far to run so I never ran the mile in jr high. I ran 2:27 880 in 7th grade and 2:13 in 8th grade.
6:12
Good thread. I ran a 6:59 in 6th grade, then slowed to a 7:25 in 7th. I almost yakked after the 6:59. It was like 85 degrees with 95 percent humidity. I smelled like a dirty diaper the rest of the day.
First timed mile (as far as I can remember) was in 8th grade, 5:14.
5:05. Our school record was 4:59! Not only that, but the 8th grade 3200 record was 10:10, and that's at 4000+ feet. Insane for that age, but he did go on to be an olympian.
