I am not asking for me (I was never that fast). However, I'm just curious how fast an American has run to make money in distance running?
1500?
3k?
5k?
10k?
Thanks

It depends. Fast enough to consistently finish high amongst peers.
You're welcome.
You can make more money in the 10k because you can make some cash on the roads. So my numbers won't be equal.
Numbers to pay the bills.
1500 sub 3:37
5000 sub 13:20
10000 sub 28:30
not nearly that fast. especially out of college..
winning ncaas is an automatic mid 50's
to get a contract you need to be
sub 1:47
sub 3:40
sub 13:40
sub 28:20
then a contract just depends on who you know, the year you sign, and what you offer a company.
I would say once you can hit the Olympic "A"standard.
1500= 3:36
3k= 7:50
5k= 13:21
Remember, you also have some expenses like coaching fees (unless someone agrees to coach you for free), and agents commissions (generally around 15-20%).
down in australia they have a professional circuit where guys run off handicaps for money.
no agents fees.
some races can get you an easy few thousand for the win, and a little less for the place.
