We had someone join our team and she has 2 years of running behind her but low mileage (15-30).
Her times are
200m - 29
400m - 63
800m - 2:26
1500m - 4:55
3000m - 10:47
which is better/which should she concentrate on?
She has also run
5K - 19:18
10K - late 39s
We don't really do distance so thanks for any advice.
The 1500 and 3k are about the same, and significantly better than the 800 and 5k times. However, her 200/400 speed is decent, so I think she would make a good miler.
I agree. Based on her times, the 1500m seems to be her best with a close second to the 800m.
1500m is clearly the best event. Actually the 800m time is under-performing compared to the 1500m and 400m times. She should be around 2:21. Go 1500-3K...she'll need the speed as she moves up to the next level.

Work on the 800 speed, improve her 400 time...You can always move up in distance later.
1500 is best. I would have her gradually increase her mileage but still focus on the 800. Having a sprint/mid distance backround can really help a runner if/when they move up. She can train for the 800 and still improve her endurance for when she runs the 1500 and up.
