We're working on announcing the awards for the Prediction Contest for the 2008 Games. We have a problem
The winner has been very open and honest in admitting that he also is the 2nd place finisher.
Thus he entered twice.
The rules state one entry per person.
What do we do?
DQ him?
Or celebrate his sick greatness like baseball fans did with McGuire/Sosa? I mean getting 1st and 2nd is pretty insane.
Your advice is appreciated in this serious matter.

How do you know the person didn't enter a hundred or so times?
I think we have no choice but to DQ him and pat him on the back at the same time. I don't think the cheating was intentional (he explained how the 2nd account happened) and he called me up out of the blue to tell me. Without the notification I wouldn't have figured it out.
Either that or a public beating.
I'm saying he should get the 2nd price only: DQ his first-place entry, but not the other. An in-between solution, but I feel like he does deserve something...

If he got 1st and 2nd, this man deserves the million dollar prize. He can also choose my next lottery numbers.
I like the idea of DQ'ing the first place entry, but not the 2nd place one. That takes into account that he was upfront about things. In my opinion, it's smart to have an incentive for people to 'fess up, esp. if that's the only way they'd get "caught". Treating people who come forward voluntarily the same as people who get caught doesn't seem quite right.
And kudos to Rojo for tossing this out there for people to comment on.

Give him the prize only if he agrees to post a photo of himself dressed as a drunk Peter Pan (or Tinkerbell) to put on the front page.
By the way, I also wouldn't have a problem if you gave the first price to him, but not the second. Depends on how severely you want to punish him. But don't DQ both entries, especially if he called you about it first.
The guy is obviously a very honest genius. Its probably all he has to live for.

Can you describe what a drunk Peter Pan looks like? I'm thinking he would obviously be carrying a beer. Maybe he could be lying in a pool of vomit?
I dunno about that...I'd say 50% knowledge and 50% random guessing would have produced about the right mix of winners. Who could've predicted this Olympics from profiling?
