He ran like a typical American and got nothing out of it. He's stuck his nose in it with Lel and Wanjiru before but tonight he just let them go. I think he had some kind of strategy that he would go out easy and then finish hard like he did at the trials, except he didn't count on Wanjiru putting the hammer down and never coming back. He also seemed to have been beaten early in the race when they pulled away. He was hauling when he entered the stadium so I don't think he was out of gas or feeling bad.
Why would he change the front running strategy that has worked so well for him? You don't win races running from the back. It might have worked in Athens but there was only one guy to chase down, not 5.
I love Hall but he really blew it today. Ritz was a surprise but 10th is still pretty awful.
As an aside, Wanjiru is the man...I hope he takes a nice long rest and comes back next year to smash Geb's record.
