JW...43.18? Damn. Does anyone have the fastest splits run in the 4x4? That time must rank at least top five. MJ must have lite a fire up JW's ass after that pathetic 400 meter performance. Looks like when JW and LM are on a relay, everthing is ok. But when they race each other, smells like another head-case. I believe LM has his number in the big races. By the way, that 43.18 converts to around 43.35-43.45 open 400.
My vote for family of the Games goes to the Borlee family from Belgium. 1 finalist in the 400m, with his twin brother getting to the semis. And a 43.6 (!!) relay leg to boot.
And if that weren't enough, their sister ran the lead off leg for the Belgian 4x100 silver medal team yesterday. Me thinks Mrs. Borlee might be a proud lady out there in lil' old Belgium

No it doesn't. If that was the case a handful of guys are sub 44 right now. Look at the splits. You're wrong.

If YOU are correct, then what is the conversion time? From college, the difference between the 400 open to a 400 split was always no greater than .5 of a second slower in the open 400. JW has never run (to my memory) that fast in the 400 (as a split). His previous best was around 43.3x-43.4x low. Saying that, his conversion would be correct. As for the other runners, maybe they had the races of their life...it's hard to say. And as we all know, runner's are always more "pumped-up" running relays.
Usually the adjustment is beween .5-.75 I also had Merritt in 43.70 on an opening leg which does not get an adjustment for a running start.
I go along with that.
Rooney in the GB team ran a split of 43.73 - but his time in the 400 final was 45.12.
44.60 in his semi though.
I'd say anywhere between 0.8-1.0 is accurate, maybe even more. Look at Kevin Borlee of Belgium and Alexeev of Russia for proof
