My hand was there," Williams said. "The stick was there. What I'm telling people is that the stick had a mind of its own. It's not my fault, it's not her fault, it's not either of our fault."
So who's fault is it?

It would be fault. I've been the relay coach since 2003 and I take full responsibility for the inability of the relay squads to successfully pass the baton.

Its the fault of the USTAF for not checking that the OG uses the (premium)sticks with minds of their own rather than the old technology sticks that don't do anything but exist. Same company that makes Quiddich Snitchs...

Good stuff.
I mean come on, "the baton had a mind of its own". Good Lord! Can we take some responsibility for our actions or at least blame the fact that we don't practice adequately? Do these Olympians realize that there are literally hundreds of talented high school coaches (real teachers) who would eliminate the likelihood of this ever happening again. Gay's comments about practicing a few days ago sums up our seriousness about 4X100m relay exchanges in the USA. Why don't the relays spend weeks living together, learning each other's movements, practicing and lifting together, and doing hundreds of exchanges under all circumstances? How bad do we want gold in the 4X100m relays? Unbelieveable that we leave these details to chance and then can't look ourselves in the mirror when we fail. I'm actually angry about this. Just like I was angry about the 10k fiasco at the Olympic Trials. Leadership starts at the top and filters down and we've seen some poor leadership with USA Track & Field. Why was Gay not at the training camp and how is that acceptable?! Can you imagine one of the basketball players skipping out on team camp for the Olympics? Not going to happen--at least not under Coach K's watch. As the boys down at the factory used to tell me, it's The Law of Seven P's: "Previous Perfect Practice Prevents Piss Poor Performance." But maybe the athletes don't want it as bad as some of us. And THAT is always a problem.
hahahahahahahahahaha. U.S. women don't know how to woek the stick.
I’m afraid that approach might not work either.
One can’t teach them how to deal with the pressure, anxiety and tension of performing on the actual day, even though it’s merely a heat.
The British have tried the approach you recommend:
‘UK Athletics had invested more than £500,000 in developing men and women's relay squads in the four years since Athens. The athletes have competed regularly and gathered for training sessions in Loughborough, Annecy and Geneva this summer. The pre-Olympic preparation camp in Macau featured almost military-like sessions of baton-changing, using the push-pass technique also favoured by the Americans.’
And the British men still cocked-up the baton exchange!
